Is HP Having a Fight With Amazon Over Printers?

Though some HP printers and toners are still sold through third parties on Amazon, HP itself does not appear to be selling any of them directly. An anonymous Mashable reader told us that HP hasn't been selling the items for at least the past two weeks. Other HP products like desktop and notebook PCs are currently sold directly through Amazon.

Reps from HP and Amazon could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, retailers including Best Buy and Costco are still selling HP printers. HP's "select a retailer" webpage also features scroll-down menus for nine retailers, but not Amazon. (A scroll-down menu is also missing for Walmart, but that retailer is still selling HP printer products.)

What could be driving a wedge between Amazon and HP? One possibility is that Amazon is retaliating against HP's move into cloud computing services earlier this year, a business that directly competes with its own. Growing HP's cloud computing business is a linchpin of CEO Meg Whitman's turnaround plan for the company.
