Wikipedia, the extremely popular crowdsourced online encyclopedia, is inaccessible for users across the world as of Monday morning.
A tweet sent by the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that runs Wikipedia, said the site's engineers were busy at work on fixing "some technical issues:"
We're having some technical issues, but our engineers are working on it. We'll be back soon! ur1.ca/47ok4— Wikimedia (@Wikimedia) August 6, 2012
Status.wikipedia.org, a public site that shows the health of Wikipedia's servers, shows red lights across the board.
Twenty-five million Wikipedia users visit the English-language site alone every day. Some Internet users who rely on Wikipedia but couldn't access the site Monday took to Twitter to find out if other people were also having issues:

We'll update this post when we know more about Wikipedia's status or when it returns to normal service. For now, don't panic and check out Mashable's guide to Wikipedia alternatives.
UPDATE: As of 11:00 a.m. ET Monday morning, Wikipedia is running mostly normally. Mashable reader David Gerard informed us that according to a message posted Monday morning in #wikimedia-tech, the issues were the result of "networking issues (read: fiber being accidentally cut)" at a Tampa datacenter.
