Isis, as a name, has long fallen out of favor, but one company stubbornly stuck with it.

Until now, that is.

Isis Pharmaceuticals, a two-decade-old drug development company, announced Friday that it has finally decided to changed its name to Ionis Pharmaceuticals, for reasons that are so incredibly obvious the company doesn't even need or want to explain them.

"We decided to change our company name because, when people see or hear our name, we want them to think about the life-saving medicines we are developing," said Lynne Parshall, chief operating officer at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, in a statement.

You know, as opposed to thinking of a life-threatening terrorist organization with the same name.

Isis Pharmaceuticals initially balked at changing its name despite the rise of ISIS -- a group also referred to as ISIL, the Islamic State or more recently Daesh -- last year.

After the attacks in Paris last month, however, the drug company hinted that a name change would be imminent.

"Even though people know we're not associated with the terrorist group, the name itself has so many negative connotations," D. Wade Walke, VP for corporate communications and investor relations at Isis Pharmaceuticals, told CNN Money at the time. "It's obviously not getting better over time."
