One week after walking across the Golden Globe stage, Best Supporting Actor winner J.K. Simmons has been enlisted to hit the stage of SNL.

The show announced Tuesday that Whiplash actor, who gave a much-acclaimed performance as a perfectionist jazz instructor, will host the Jan. 31 episode with musical guest D'Angelo.

SNL returned after a short hiatus on Saturday with an episode hosted by Kevin Hart -- though Kate McKinnon was arguably the real star of the episode.

This week's show will be hosted by Blake Shelton, who will also act as musical guest.

SNL is in the middle of celebrating its milestone 40th season, which VH1 Classic is set to pay tribute to with a 19-day marathon, starting at the end of this month.
