Jack Dorsey Joins Disney's Board of Directors

Jack Dorsey has been elected to the board of directors at Walt Disney Co., the company announced Monday.

Dorsey, who currently serves as CEO of Square and chairman of Twitter, the two companies he cofounded, will serve as an independent director at Disney, effective immediately.

“I am honored and humbled to join the Disney Board,” Dorsey said in a press release. “Disney is a timeless company, one we all grow up learning from and admiring.”

Dorsey announced the move in his own way, on Twitter:

Bob Iger, Disney's CEO and chairman, touted Dorsey's history of starting up two "groundbreaking new businesses" in the announcement.

“Jack Dorsey is a talented entrepreneur who has helped create groundbreaking new businesses in the social media and commerce spaces,” Iger said. “The perspective he brings to Disney and its Board is extremely valuable."

The news comes at a busy time for Dorsey. Twitter went public just last month and Square is expected to go public sometime next year.
