Though Holmes's online personality remains a mystery, we now know more details about the alleged gunman.

Holmes is 24 years old and until recently, was a graduate student at the University of Colorado, Denver, studying for a Ph.D. in neuroscience. Holmes withdrew from the school last month. The University of California, Riverside confirmed that a person named James Eagan Holmes graduated from the university in the spring of 2010 with a BS in neuroscience.

After he was arrested, Holmes insinuated to police that he had explosives at his apartment. When the Aurora Police Department went to his residence to investigate, they found the scene "heavily booby-trapped." The FBI and bomb squad are now working on the area.

Holmes is originally from San Diego. His family released the following statement:

"Our hearts go out to those who were involved in this tragedy and to the families and friends of those involved. We ask that the media respect our privacy during this difficult time Our family is cooperating with authorities in both San Diego, California, and Aurora, Colorado. We are still trying to process this information and we appreciate that people will respect our privacy."

Police officers in Colorado are urging anyone who has any information about Holmes or his activities -- online or off -- to contact authorities.
