James Patterson's when-animals-attack drama Zoo will be housed at CBS.

The network announced today it has given a straight-to-series order for the drama, based on the 2012 bestselling novel. The first season will consist of 13 episodes and air summer 2015.

The thriller centers on a wave of violent animal attacks against humans that begin taking place across the world, and follows a young biologists' efforts to thwart the string of increasingly ferocious attacks and uncover the truth behind them. The pilot was written by former Fringe EP Jeff Pinkner, former Star-Crossed EPs Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec and Happy Town creator Scott Rosenberg.

CBS has had much success in filling the summer season with buzzy limited season TV shows. Under the Dome, based on the Stephen King novel, returned for a second season yesterday to 9.3 million viewers and a solid 2.9 in the 18-49 demo.

“Zoo further demonstrates our commitment to high-quality, year-round programming and to high-concept series that play to summer audiences in the U.S. as well as on a global scale,” CBS Chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement.

The book was originally published in Sept. 2012 by Little, Brown and Company and has since been translated into six languages and has sold more than four million copies.

Per the straight to series order, there is not yet a cast in place for the project yet, as no pilot was made.
