After retiring earlier this month after 19 years in the NBA, Jason Kidd found a new gig pretty quickly.
The Brooklyn Nets hired the soon-to-be Hall of Famer as its new head coach, announcing the decision Wednesday night. Sources say the retired point guard signed a three-year deal, with a salary yet to be determined. The press conference is set for 2 p.m. ET on Thursday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Kidd led the New Jersey Nets to two Eastern Conference championships, in 2002 and 2003. Kidd's competitive spirit and proven track record -- he's a two-time Olympic gold medalist and 2011 NBA Champion -- is sure to help a franchise in dire need of a new identity and fresh start, even after a successful 49-33 season.
Various NBA players expressed their opinions after the official announcement. The Nets' starting point guard, Deron Williams, is a close friend of Kidd and his family. He shared some kind words for the new coach on Twitter:
Excited to get to work under our new head coach @realjasonkidd great leader and great basketball mind will be a great head coach #BROOKLYN— Deron Williams (@DeronWilliams) June 13, 2013
