Little by little, we're learning more about New York Giants star Jason Pierre-Paul's gruesome Fourth of July fireworks injury.

Now we have an image that shows Pierre-Paul in the hospital with a bloody bandage around his hand, taken the day after the explosion that led to his right index finger being amputated.

Pierre-Paul posted the Instagram photo below on Monday, with the caption: "July 5th I remember when I was down and out. Just get back up and keep going no matter what."

The Instagram post from Monday is the latest reveal since Pierre-Paul was hurt last summer.

First, we learned Pierre-Paul was one of two NFL players to suffer from a Fourth of July fireworks accident. Then we saw a vague look at the damage. Then we got a closer look, and Pierre-Paul shared more about what actually happened.

Pierre-Paul rejoined the Giants mid-season and is now a free agent.

But the main takeaway from all this is simple: Be very, very careful when you play with fireworks.
