Jay's side unraveled

What the hell really happened that day?

Though the popular podcast wrapped up on Dec. 18, Serial continues to stir conversation online after Jay Wilds, the state's key witness in the case against Adnan Syed for the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, a Baltimore high school student, decided to give his side of the story.Jay didn't speak on record to Serial host Sarah Koenig, but he recently shared his story with journalist Natasha Vargas-Cooper for The Intercept. For everyone invested in this case -- personally or by way of the podcast -- Jay talking is a huge deal. His accounts of what happened on Jan. 13, 1999, the day Hae went missing, ultimately put her ex-boyfriend, Adnan, behind bars for life. Adnan has relentlessly proclaimed his innocence to this day.Much of the state's case against Adnan relied upon two things: His cellphone records and Jay's testimony, which they used to corroborate those records. Jay has delivered multiple versions of what happened. During the first part of his interview with The Intercept, he introduced yet another story.
