A billboard ad for a Michael Graves-designed tea kettle from JCPenney has become an Internet sensation thanks to its uncanny resemblance to Adolph Hitler.
The ad on the 405 Interstate highway near Culver City, Calif., became the topic of hot debate on Reddit over the weekend. The conversation spilled onto Twitter on Tuesday:
LOL! Great moments in product design! RT @benarilee: No thanks, JC Penny. I don't think I want your HITLER teapot. twitter.com/BenariLee/stat…— Harold Phillips (@haroldPDX) May 24, 2013
Actual LOL. RT @benarilee: Uh, no thanks, JC Penny. I don't think I want your Hitler teapot. twitter.com/BenariLee/stat…— Michael Scott (@DorkmanScott) May 24, 2013
JCPenney, which recently fired its CEO, former Apple retail chief Ron Johnson, initially could not be reached for comment, but later tweeted this response:
@mashable Totally unintentional. If we'd designed the kettle to look like something, we would've gone w/a snowman :) pic.twitter.com/DAbbOwlB65— jcpenney (@jcpenney) May 28, 2013
