A Jeopardy! contestant became an inadvertent conservative hero on Thursday when she insulted liberals --- unintentionally, she says -- with her Final Jeopardy answer.
Host Alex Trebek asked contestants to identify a flower whose name is also considered a "disparaging term for people on the political left." The answer he was looking for was "Bleeding Heart."
When Trebek came to contestant and NPR producer Becky Sullivan, she revealed her best guess: "Pansy." We'll take "Third-Degree Burns" for $2,000, Alex.
"I think you may have found a way to insult liberals in this country," the host joked.
Meanwhile, conservatives were totally delighted by Sullivan's answer.
Tremendous final #Jeopardy answer: "Pansy". Well done Becky!— Jackson Mueller (@jackson_mueller) October 23, 2015
On Friday, she addressed the unintentional insult while live-tweeting her Jeopardy appearance.
OK here's the deal with pansy: I actually didn't know bleeding heart was a flower. I just put the only flower I knew that was also an insult— Becky Sullivan (@becsully) October 24, 2015
Second place still gets me two grand though. Worth it. Sean did great.— Becky Sullivan (@becsully) October 24, 2015
