BlackBerry Co-Founder Sells Off His Entire Stake in Company

This is supposed to be BlackBerry's big year, but it looks like at least one former exec isn't too confident about the company's comeback.

Jim Balsillie, the co-founder and former co-CEO of BlackBerry (nee RIM), has sold off his entire stake in the company, according to a filing released Thursday. Balsillie had 28.6 million shares of RIM a year ago, giving him 5.1% of the company.

Balsillie resigned as co-CEO in January 2012 amid pressure from investors to come up with a new strategy to revive the struggling Canadian company. He joined the company's board of directors, but ended up resigning from that a couple months later after reportedly clashing with leadership on how to shift the company's strategy.

BlackBerry's stock has been on the rebound in recent months under new CEO Thorsten Heins, driven by optimism for BlackBerry 10, though the stock has declined somewhat since the actual launch event.

The stock fell by nearly 7% in pre-market trading Thursday following the news, but it has since recovered and is now up nearly 3% on the day.
