Saturday Night Live knows how to throw a good party.

Pretty much every famous person ever (at least, anyone who has ever appeared on SNL before) was invited to attend SNL's 40th anniversary special, so it's no surprise that the after-party was one huge FOMO moment for those observing at home. Jimmy Fallon, a former SNL cast member, had the honor of opening the special and then leading the spontaneous ensemble of performances afterward.

During Monday's Tonight Show, Fallon recapped the night's events, and how the after-party brought together the likes of Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, the B-52s, Bill Murray, Ariana Grande, Debbie Harry, Miley Cyrus -- and, yes, even Prince.

Sadly, plebeians couldn't snag a ticket to the hottest show in town, but Jimmy's story is almost as good as being there.

Spontaneous moments like this are what keep me falling back in love with music over and over again. @paulmccartney @jimmyfallon A video posted by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on Feb 16, 2015 at 5:50pm PST
