You don't need Olympic diving skills to make waves on national television. Just stroll near Jimmy Kimmel's studio.

Jimmy Kimmel Live pulled five confused pedestrians off the street, put them in bathing suits and asked each one to showcase their best stomach-first plunge before a panel of judges for the show's 8th Annual Bellyflop Competition.

The panel featured Wipe Out host John Henson, professional dancer Cheryl Burke and American diving legend Greg Louganis. Louganis explained that the secret to a perfect bellyflop is a strong jump and perfect flatness. "If they bounce, that's extra points," he added.

The contestants had a diverse range of bellyflopping experience -- from the self-proclaimed "accomplished bellyflopper" to the "I've never tried it, but it looks fun" amateur.

Ultimately, it was Terry and his starry blue Speedo that made the biggest splash of the night and walked away with an almost-perfect score of 29 and the title of bellyflop champion.

The judges walked away with soggy clothing and watered-down vodkas.
