LONDON – J.K. Rowling is something of a magician when it comes to cleverly crafting titles and character names that are designed to keep people guessing.
First there was the "Half-Blood Prince" in book six, and now – with the recent announcement of the upcoming Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play – there's a new mysterious character to try and identify.
J.K. Rowling took to Twitter on Friday morning to answer some questions from fans, and in doing so she dropped a couple of careful hints.
@jk_rowling I'm sure the cursed child is Tom! He is cursed by the love he can never feel, because of his mom and firltre love. It isn't ?— Without Us (@leapxrxz) August 21, 2015
Good theory, because I do think Tom was cursed in the way that you suggest, but no, he's not the child. https://t.co/AdX85WIqiX— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) August 21, 2015
So who could the "Cursed Child" be? Rowling had one more clue up her sleeve...
@jk_rowling @leapxrxz is the cursed child a character we have already met, or a new one completely?— heylo_fellow_person (@megan_jadeeee) August 21, 2015
Answering that would give away a huge amount. To quote Chris Cornell: "You know my name." https://t.co/BzHLelUvCR— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) August 21, 2015
People immediately began chipping in with their theories.
@jk_rowling Is it one of Harry's kids? He/she is cursed for all they must live up to.— Kevin Ford (@kev4d) August 21, 2015
@jk_rowling @megan_jadeeee @leapxrxz Is it Teddy? Teddy Lupin? :)— a proud hufflepuff (@HufflepuffPot) August 21, 2015
@jk_rowling @megan_jadeeee @leapxrxz I am guessing sirius black left behind a child no one knows about and that is the cursed child? ??— Rania Ehsan (@rm_ehsan) August 21, 2015
@jk_rowling i bet it s neville— Mr Roshi (@macaco_roshi69) August 21, 2015
But Rowling wasn't going to be coaxed into giving away any more hard info.
@jk_rowling is the cursed child me?— eleanor bass (@zonkospatronus) August 21, 2015
No, you're just jinxed. It'll wear off by teatime. https://t.co/gAkbWlYeEu— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) August 21, 2015
Damn it, Rowling – why do you have to torture us like this?
