Time flies, even in the wizarding world. On Tuesday, J.K. Rowling reminded us all that Harry Potter's eldest son, James Sirius Potter, is starting his first day at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Because it wouldn't do to leave Potter fans hanging for details, she also confirmed that the Sorting Hat put James Potter into Gryffindor as Hufflepuff Head Boy Teddy Lupin looked on, "disappointed."

Have just heard that James S Potter has been Sorted (to nobody's surprise) into Gryffindor. Teddy Lupin (Head Boy, Hufflepuff) disappointed.— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 1, 2015
As he should. With a name like James S Potter, Gryffindor is in his bloodline. But lol at Teddy. Hufflepuff https://t.co/S2jyTmTyAJ— VforVera (@VforVintageVera) September 1, 2015
Rowling's news, however, also confirmed for the first time that Remus and Tonks's son, Teddy Lupin, successfully rose the ranks to become Head Boy -- in Hufflepuff House.
The news yielded mixed reactions from fans who were sure they knew which house Teddy would be sorted into.
Some were in shock:

Teddy Lupin is a Hufflepuff and I'm so sad. I wanted him to be more like Remus.— Emily Rugburn (@PennyLane516) September 1, 2015
teddy lupin is a hufflepuff i'm a tad disappointed but also i knew it— daisy (@airofslytherin) September 1, 2015
Others, however, thought it made perfect sense -- after all, Tonks was in Hufflepuff.
Are we really shocked that Teddy Lupin is a Hufflepuff? I mean, his mam was, and Remus is pretty much 60/40 Gryffindor/Hufflepuff— Cíara (@ciaragemmam) September 1, 2015
Teddy Lupin is a Hufflepuff like his mother #BackToHogwarts— Always, said Snape (@snapegirl19) September 1, 2015
"Teddy Lupin (Head Boy, Hufflepuff)" TEDDY'S A HUFFLEPUFF LIKE HIS MOM OH MY GOD NO BYE— pynch meaghan (@lightwoodmalec) September 1, 2015
Rowling's information fills in the gaps of the years between the end of Deathly Hallows and its epilogue. Harry and Ginny's eldest son has already begun at Hogwarts by the time of the final book's concluding chapter, which takes place on September 1, 2017 -- the day their second son, Albus Severus Potter, starts school.
Which means, of course, that we'll probably be waiting for another two years to find out which namesake Albus Severus will take after: Gryffindor's Albus Dumbledore, or Slytherin's Severus Snape.
