“We don’t apologize for a joke. We are comics. We are here to make you laugh. If you don’t get it, then don’t watch us.”

Joan Rivers was not a delicate woman, by any means. The comedian, who died Thursday at age 81, was unapologetically sassy, famous for stirring up trouble in the form of brutally honest comedy -- often at other's expense. Even when it came to herself, Rivers was first in line to crack a joke.

While we remember Rivers with admiration, it would be a disservice to more than four decades of work not to pay tribute to some of her snappiest one-liners.

"When my time comes, I'm going out in high style," she wrote in her book I Hate Everyone...Starting With Me -- specifically in an entire chapter of jokes about death. The woman would want us to remember her as the fierce firecracker she was, and these jokes show her true, spirited color.
