Steve Jobs Subpoenaed For Backdated Options Case

Steve Jobs will have to appear before federal investigators as part of the Securities and Exchange Commission's lawsuit against Apple's former head lawyer, Nancy Heinen.

This all goes back to the uproar that was caused by Apple's backdating of stock options for the company several years ago. While both Apple and Jobs have been freed and cleared of any legal implications or consequences thus far, Jobs' subpoenaed appearance before federal investigators raises questions about his knowledge and involvement. Heinen isn't the only one that had been blamed for the backdating fiasco.

Fred Anderson, Apple's former CFO, was charged as well, but soon settled with the SEC at the time it was filed. And Jobs' subpoena may be a result of Anderson's admission that he had told Jobs of the backdating as well as the implications therein. Nevertheless, Apple has tried to keep Jobs as separated as possible from the situation, though any new information brought about as a result of Jobs' appearance before the SEC could change the course of this ongoing situation.
