John Legend's latest collaboration is out of this world. Literally.
The singer's newest holiday song, "Under the Stars" -- written exclusively for Stella Artois -- features sound waves made by actual stars. The Belgian beer company wanted to ring in the holiday season with a song that pays homage to its name; "Stella" means "star" in Latin. Legend was all in once he heard the concept.
"I was like 'wow, that sounds incredible,'" Legend tells Mashable at a Stella event in New York City on Dec. 9. "I didn’t even know that was possible."
The Grammy and Oscar-winning singer was inspired by classic themes of the holiday season.
"I was just thinking about togetherness, love and peace and us being all connected during the holiday season," he says.

Of course, his wife -- model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen -- has already heard the song. She "loves it," Legend says -- but wasn't around when he was writing it.
"I'm usually at the studio," he explains. "I consider writing going to work. So she’s at work, I'm at work. We do our thing, then we come home and we don’t think about work."
The pair, who are expecting their first child together, will be traveling for the holidays this year. Legend says he's excited to start ringing in the holiday season with their child in the future.
"We just like to eat a lot and be around family. Music is a big part of holidays for my family particularly. All that will hopefully continue as we bring a new baby into the world," he says.

If you ask Legend about the best Christmas gifts he's ever been given, he'll quickly, happily recount a number of items Teigen has picked.
"She gave me a beautiful watch," he starts. "She gave me a deep fryer, which changed my life."
Teigen also has a tradition of buying her husband "a new bag every year."
"This year was a backpack from Tom Ford," he says. "Last year was more like a computer bag. She always likes to get me something that’s like my standby thing to carry around all the time."
As for the best thing he's ever given her? Easy.
"I gave Chrissy an engagement ring one Christmas," he says with a laugh. "That’s probably the most memorable."
