American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is already shaping up to be something we've never seen from creator Ryan Murphy before.

In four new short teasers, FX gives us a first look at a very different looking John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro and teases the tension and mania that surrounded this captivating criminal case from 1995. (You can watch that preview clip above and the three others below.)

It also seems so ... normal.

Okay, maybe that's not entirely fair. After all, Murphy was behind HBO's The Normal Heart TV film that earned Emmy noms and was entirely without the heightened reality we've come to associate with the power producer. But this is certainly not the same Murphy we're currently watching on American Horror Story: Hotel.

Unless, that is, he decides to insert a vampire orgy scene somewhere. TBD.

The series debuts on FX in early 2016 and stars Travolta, Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson, David Schwimmer as defense attorney Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as defense attorney Johnnie Cochran, and Bruce Greenwood as Los Angeles County District Attorney Gil Garcetti.
