The Eric Garner decision renders Jon Stewart speechless

There are few times in the history of The Daily Show that Jon Stewart has been rendered speechless, let alone joke-less. (His first show after the Sept. 11 attacks is one rare instance.)

On Wednesday, a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict the white New York police officer who was involved in the death of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man, in July. And Stewart had some choice, poignant words to offer.

“If comedy is tragedy plus time, I need more fucking time,” Stewart said. “But I would really settle for less fucking tragedy, to be honest with you.”

Stewart compared the Garner case with what happened with the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, concluding that we do not live in a "post-racial society."
