Watch the Powerful Trailer for Jon Stewart's Directorial Debut
Gael García Bernal stars in Jon Stewart's directoral debut 'Rosewater,' about a journalist is detained in Iran for more than 100 days and brutally interrogated in prison.

When Jon Stewart stepped away from his Daily Show desk last summer to direct his first feature film, fans of the fake news anchor knew that the project would be quite different than anything we've seen from Stewart before. But it wasn't clear how different it would be -- until now.

The debut trailer for Rosewater, based on the best-selling book Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival, is our first look at Gael García Bernal as journalist Maziar Bahari, who was imprisoned and tortured in Iran in 2009, and held for more than 100 days.

Filmed in Jordan last summer, Rosewater is set for release Nov. 7.

Stewart, who also penned the script, has had the real-life Bahari on his show several times, including once prior to his imprisonment. Here's one of their chats after his release:
