In a segment Wednesday, Daily Show host Jon Stewart leveled some well-warranted mockery at broadcasters' use of Twitter to highlight news reactions from their audiences.
"I'm going to assume by now you're all familiar with Twitter, the social networking site that has become an increasingly popular outlet for news about Justin Bieber and popular revolutions. Did you also know it's a great newsroom feedback delivery system?" he began.
He points out the unusual frequency with which CNN reads tweets from @ladybigmac, a retired bookkeeper who likes to watch golf and NASCAR races, and has since amassed a following of nearly 1,500. He then shows a series of clips of newscasters reading off tweets from a handful of less-than-professional Twitter handles, such as @krispibacon and @mrswisscheese.
If anything, the segment is a testament of the self-control of those newscasters, who all managed to keep straight faces while reading the usernames.
