Juan Carlos Viñas is a Spanish illustrator who works mainly with ink and watercolor. Occasionally he expands his work to include intricate paper cutouts, which add a textural layer to his whimsical character portraits.

For his latest project, Viñas (who works under the name Jotaká) pieced together intimate portraits of embracing couples in a series he's titled "La seista." The portraits show couples laying in bed together surrounded by books, records and beloved pets.

On his Behance profile, the artist writes that these pieces are part of a "personal project about hugs, the importance and the ideal time to receive them."

See how more of "La siesta" came together on Behance and see more of Viñas' work on his website.
