Justin.tv to Launch Pay-Per-View Channels

The live video streaming site Justin.tv is set to launch a pay-per-view service next month, allowing content providers to charge fees to those tuning in online.

The service goes live for select partners in January, then opens to all in Q2 2010, reports Beet.tv. Channels will charge a minimum of $1 per view, with Justin.tv taking a 30 percent cut.

It's a model that could work, dependent entirely on the content. We're unlikely to pay to watch the average Justin.tv user stream from his or her bedroom, but live sports events or awards shows could generate interest. Ultimately the content needs to be so appealing that a $1 fee seems affordable -- most content won't meet that requirement.
