The Kansas City Police announced Thursday they a suspect has been arrested in a monthlong string of roadway shootings that began in early March.

Police say most of the shootings took place on highways, and many from a moving vehicle that would then pull away on the nearest exit or interchange ramp, according to the LA Times.

Local, state and federal authorities met to share information and tips as they hunted for a suspect. They believe one gunman is responsible for 12 connected shootings.

Unnamed sources with knowledge of the investigation told WDAF-TV that authorities had kept the suspect under round-the-clock surveillance for more than a week leading up to the arrest.

The last of the incidents took place April 8. The shootings left resulted in a total of three injuries, none of which were life-threatening.
