Kanye West received an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago today. His personal brand has changed a lot since The College Dropout days.

The Chicago native's speech touched on his role as a pop artist ("my medium is public opinion"), his struggle to find respect for his creative work and concepts like humility and modesty that you might not have known he was aware of.

Kanye emphasized how important it is to never apologize for your art. "George Bush," West said, followed by a dramatic pause, "has some very cool self portraits."

Proud wife Kim Kardashian shared a photo of the new Dr. West smiling, an act many believe he is incapable of.
