Kanye West, please step away from the Twitter. The rapper went on his latest unhinged Twitter rant Tuesday, this time stepping into dark territory when he vehemently declared Bill Cosby innocent.

Minutes before declaring Cosby innocent, however, West offered a profuse apology to none other than NBA legend Michael Jordan. At this point you might being saying something along the lines of: "Wait, what? Why??"

We're here to explain.

The first thing you have to remember is that West isn't just a rapper -- he fancies himself to be quite the fashion designer, too. He has a popular line of footwear, the Yeezy Boost, that is produced by Adidas. Adidas, of course, is rivals with Nike. Nike, of course, is the parent company of the wildly popular Jordan shoe brand.

At the end of last year, West dropped a song called "Facts." The song opens with multiple shots at Nike; West's first lines even specifically target the Jordan line, alternately known as Jumpman to the cool kids.

Now fast-forward to Tuesday's bizarre Twitter rant. Minutes before defending Cosby, West posted this rather groveling message indirectly addressed to Jordan (who does not have a Twitter account).

I'm sorry Michael Jordan I love and respect you. My beef was with Mark Parker. I respect you so much!— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) February 9, 2016

The Mark Parker referenced there is Nike's CEO. To recap, Kanye West the tweeter was apparently clarifying that Kanye West the rapper did not take a shot at Michael Jordan the NBA legend. And Kanye West the fashion designer did not take a shot at Michael Jordan the sneaker mogul.

See, what had happened was Kanye West the business mogul simply took a shot at another business mogul.

So there you have the facts on "Facts," which only took six weeks to clarify. But West wasn't done groveling after just one tweet. Come on now -- even in shame the man is nothing if not verbose.

Later, West tweeted this screenshot of a text exchange, neglecting to add any of the context surrounding when and why it might have occurred.

And that's the story of why Kanye West apologized to Michael Jordan. What a time, as they say, to be alive.
