The first trailer of the latest Karan Johar production Kapoor & Sons suggests that the film will be an entertaining cross between a family saga and a romantic comedy. At the film's heart is the dysfunctional Kapoor family, whose realistic portrayal seems to a refeshing update on Johar's brand of sugar-coated family dramas.

This is director Shakun Batra's second film after the 2012 romantic comedy Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. The star-packed cast seems to be share great chemistry. Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan play brothers and rivals for the affection of Alia Bhatt's Tia Singh. Veteran actors Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah add the right gravitas as their squabbling parents. Rishi Kapoor dons a heavy layer of make-up to transform into the ageing family patriarch, and the eponymous Mr. Kapoor in the film's title.

Kapoor & Sons will release on Mar. 18.
