You've never heard rap music with a 19th century twist -- until now.

For the new series "19th Century French Authors vs. 21st Century American Rappers," blogger and artist Kate Gavino illustrates what would happen if modern day rappers could work with French writers from the past.

"What do 21st century rappers and 19th century French writers have in common?" Gavino recently asked Mashable. "Words, of course! Who knows what collaborations could have sprung forth had these artists existed at the same time."

Well, someone get these rappers a time machine ASAP. By pairing famous quotes with rap lyrics, Gavino proves that rap music and French philosophy aren't that different after all.

This isn't Gavino's first foray into the whimsical side of literature. In her Tumblr blog, "Last Night's Reading," Gavino illustrates salient, and often humorous, quotes delivered by famous authors at New York City book readings.

You can check out more of Gavino's illustrations on Tumblr.
