19-Year-Old Comedian Stands Up to Depression

Kevin Breel is a son, brother, stand-up comedian and a teenager.

He also suffers from depression.

In this moving speech, presented at a TEDxYouth event in May, Breel, 19, discusses his experiences in dealing with depression and the unwanted stigma that comes with it.

"When you get past the fear and the ridicule and the judgement and the stigma of others, you can see depression for what it really is," he said. "And that's just a part of life."

The teenager's honest look at mental health has racked up more than 300,000 views on YouTube and TED since it published in September. Breel has been touring around the country giving talks and is working on an upcoming book about coping with depression.
