In a state of frustration with his comfortable lifestyle and its stifling effect on his photography, Kevin Russ chose to strap a sleeping bag to his back, drop his iPhone in his pocket, and head out across the American Southwest to explore new places. With his creative eye and a little help from a selection of photographic apps, Russ documented his adventure digitally.

Riding in empty freight train boxcars, sleeping in ditches and dumpster diving became his lifestyle, traveling with fellow nomads.

"There was something about it as a nostalgic way of travel that immediately sparked excitement inside of me," he said.
