Meet Jacob Hughes, an 11-year-old boy from Tennessee who loves Scooby-Doo, running and jumping. Oh, and he's also the kid that will restore your faith in our future generations.

During the post-Sandy blackout in Lower Manhattan, I got a call from my mother who lives in my hometown of Knoxville. She had arrived at her office in the early morning to find Jacob waiting by the front door. In his hand was a giant bag of candy, his entire loot from Halloween night.

He asked my mother -- who works with Jacob's mother -- if she could send me the candy to distribute it to the kids in New York and New Jersey who didn't get to trick or treat because of Sandy.

Today, this giant box of sweets, along with Jacob's photo and touching letter (see below), arrived at the Mashable office. We will take it to Rockaway Beach this weekend in order to fulfill Jacob's wish: to bring a moment of happiness to families who have lost everything.
