While playing games at a friend's house, Isiah Francis became an unexpected hero.

The 10-year-old told WFTV that he smelled something and then looked out the window to see smoke rising from a nearby home in his Orange County, Florida, neighborhood.

Francis called 911 and ran into the burning building to save other children that he knew were trapped inside. Isiah's friend Jeremiah Grimes, 11, ran into the home afterward to help him.

"We looked out the window and saw flames coming out of the house,” Jeremiah said. "(It was) really hot. It felt like 150 degrees in there. I'm just thinking, ‘Stay calm, keep your mind straight, stay focused on what you're doing.’"

The Associated Press reports that the two boys rescued a 1-year-old and an 8-month-old. Firefighters rescued the other two children shortly after.

"I was in the place first trying to get those little kids out to save their lives," Isiah said. "I was nervous because there was so much smoke. It was hard for me to see and all that."

Isiah added that he was scared because he thought he "was going to get burned, or it was going to start booming."

Fire officials said they believe that the fire started in the kitchen, but the fire marshal is currently doing an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
