Who says Cyber Monday is dead? Amazon has slashed the price of its 7-inch Kindle Fire to $129 for one day only.

The Kindle Fire (not to be confused with the more powerful Kindle Fire HD) usually sells for $159, with special offers. Users can save $30 -- or nearly 20% -- by entering in the code "FIREDEAL" at checkout.

Amazon refreshed the Kindle Fire -- giving it twice the memory and a faster processor -- earlier this fall. The device isn't as powerful as the $199 Kindle Fire HD and only has 8GB of storage, but at $129, it's one heck of a value.

The 7-inch tablet space is heating up thanks to strong competition from the Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD, Google's Nexus 7 and of course, the iPad mini (whose screen actually measures closer to 8 inches). While most of those devices start at $199 (the iPad mini being the lone exception), there are still plenty of buyers who want something more affordable.

Amazon is really pushing its Kindle Fire line this holiday season -- with prominent graphics across the homepage. It makes sense too, by selling the devices at cost (or even a loss), Amazon can capitalize and get buyers into its broader ecosystem, which includes digital books, movies and TV shows, apps and shopping.

If you're looking for a low-cost gift and don't want to spend the extra money to buy a Kindle Fire HD or Nexus 7, be sure to get in on this deal before the day ends.
