Amazon started shipping on Thursday its big-screen tablet, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9. The 4G LTE version of the same tablet will take another week to debut.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 -- which, as the name implies, sports an 8.9-inch screen -- starts at $299 for 16GB of storage. It has a high-def screen with 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, a front-facing HD camera and dual-band Wi-Fi with MIMO technology, said to provide faster connection speed. The 32GB version costs $369

The LTE version of the same tablet, called the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G only comes with 32GB and costs $499, which includes 20GB of cloud storage as well as a $10 Amazon Appstore credit. The wireless package costs just $49.99 a year, although data usage is capped at 250MB per month, and the rate will only be available to customers for the first year of service. If you want more data, 3GB and 5GB monthly plans are available at a higher cost.

The smaller, 7-inch version of the Kindle Fire HD started shipping in September. Reviews were generally favorable, and Mashable's Lance Ulanoff said it was a great tablet for the $199 cost. Stay tuned for our review of its big brother, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 in the coming days.
