Late Saturday night, an Amazon spokesperson sent an email to multiple publications, including Mashable:

"I wanted to let you know that with Kindle Fire HD there will be a special offer opt-out option for $15. We know from our Kindle reader line that customers love our special offers and very few people choose to opt out. We're happy to offer customers the choice."

When Amazon introduced its new line of Kindle Fire tablets on Thursday, it made no mention of the ads users would see on its tablets' lock screens and home screens. When word spread about the ads that will appear on the Kindle Fire HD and lower-priced Kindle Fire tablet, the inability to opt out of those ads rankled users, especially since Amazon is offering that option on its current Fire tablets.

Then came the surprise announcement on Saturday night, with Amazon offering consumers an even better deal for opting out of the ads than the $20 they must pay to opt out of ads on current Kindle Fire tablets.

The process of opting out will probably be easy -- current Kindles allow users to "unsubscribe from special offers and sponsored screensavers" with a simple one-click Amazon purchase.

Do you think it would be worth $15 to opt out of those ads?
