The web is rife with conversion tools, but Josh Lowensohn over at WebWare found an interesting one called KoolWire. KoolWire is different in that its conversions take place over email. It has the ability to convert a Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files to PDF, as well as PDFs back to Word.  Additionally, it can take MP3s and Wavs back and forth.

It rather reminds me of all the interesting little email conversion gateways that were prevalent on the Internet back in the mid to late nineties.  In my little town growing up, we didn't have many dedicated phone lines, but we did have a few BBS's with email access (either by way of Fido or traditional email).

With these gateways (typically found in the Internet Yellow Pages, a manual that for a time, could still be printed in one moderately priced tome), access to text-only web, Usenet and other now commonplace protocols could be gained, as well as several interesting conversion utilities like this (the most interesting one that springs to mind is an old gateway that converted emails to snailmails).
