Scurrying into the ant colony is newcomer Krumlr, a combo utility for URL shortening and sharing, with social bookmarking baked in.

With Krumlr users can save and tweet links using two separate bookmarklets. After creating an account, users drag the blue and red ants to their browser toolbar to either just bookmark a page, or both bookmark and tweet the link at the same time.

Each time a user clicks on the bookmarklet, a new window will open with the title and URL of the page in question auto-populated. Users can then add a comment, select a category, and include a few tags with their bookmarked page. When completed, the saved krum is added to the user's profile and tweeted (depending on the bookmarklet used).

Krumlr users also get Twitter-style profiles, so they can update their status on Krumlr, follow other interesting Krumstrs, and filter through user's saved krums by popularity or specific time periods.

The advantage of using Krumlr over other URL shorteners for Twitter is that saved pages are easily accessible, and users can get insight into how their twittered krums performed with counts on Twitter hits and total page views, as well as a full breakdown of Twitterers clicking on the shared link. Since Krumlr also includes a quick way to view up and coming bookmarks and popular tweets, it's also a good service to see an aggregate view of what krums are trending and worth checking out.
