A massive 8,000-kg laddu made by a sweet shop in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India has set a Guinness World Record for being the largest sweetmeat of its kind for the fifth year in running.
The laddu weighed 8,369 kg, and was made by Sri Bhaktanjaneya Sweets in the city of Tapeshwaram, for the annual Ganpati festival celebrations in the city of Vishakhapatnam on Sep. 15. The sweet shop has been breaking and recreating its own record every year since 2011. Last year, they had made a laddu weighing 7,885 kg.
This year's laddu cost approximately Rs 1.65 million (approximately $25,000). The recipe comprised 2,300 kg of gram flour, 2,700 kg of sugar, 2,000 kg of clarified butter or ghee, 700 kg of candy rock chips, 800 kg of mixed nuts and 70 kg of cardamom. In addition to the eight tonne laddu, Bhaktanjaneya Sweets also prepared a 6.3 tonne laddu for another Ganpati celebration this year.
