Three people are dead and at least nine were injured after a lone gunman opened fire at a movie theatre in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Thursday night.

Lafayette police chief Jim Craft described the “horrific scene” during a press conference early Friday morning, during which Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal also shared his sympathies and showed his support.

“When he stood up and started firing, people started rushing out,” Craft said. "That’s what everybody is wondering: Why would this guy come to here this theatre and just start randomly shooting people?”
