A Boeing 737-400's landing gear collapsed after touching down at an airport in South Africa on Monday, making for some dramatic images but, luckily, causing no injuries.

British Airways Flight 6234, operated by Comair, had just arrived to O.R. Tambo International Airport outside Johannesburg when crew noticed a problem.

"The aircraft was on the runway for a short period performing standard landing procedures when the crew noticed an unusual vibration which was followed shortly by the collapse of the left landing gear," a spokesperson for Airports Company SA told News 24.

There were 94 passengers and six crew on board.

After the plane landed, the pilot made an announcement that the left landing gear had broken off, according to passenger Walter Mann.

"This caused the plane to hit the runway at an angle. We could see sparks as the left wing and the engines were scraped across the runway," Mann told News24. "The wing seemed completely broken off."

"We can confirm that all passengers and crew safely disembarked with no reported injuries," the airport spokesperson said. "For reasons of safety and security, the runway has been closed."

The airline said crew assisted passengers on the plane with rearranging their travel plans.

"Comair and the relevant authorities will be conducting the necessary investigation over the coming days and weeks," the spokesperson said.
