Lara Croft is raiding even more tombs at this year’s E3. In addition to the next-gen adventure announced, she’ll also return in a top-down adventure game called Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. The Temple of Osiris is a sequel to the popular Tomb Raider spinoff game Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which was released as a download-only title in 2010. The co-op game allowed players to explore temples and battle enemies in top-down, twin-stick shooter style, varying in style and tone from the main series. Since its release, developer Crystal Dynamics said fans have been clamoring for a sequel. The game focuses on Lara’s travels to Egypt, where she and a rival archeologist Carter Bell are in search for the staff of Egyptian god Osiris. When Carter grabs the staff, it triggers a trap, sealing them in the temple. It also wakes Osiris’ two children, Horus and Isis, who join you on your quest, and his ancient rival Set, who split Osiris into several pieces and stole his power. Much like the first game, players must work together to solve puzzles, as each has their own unique abilities. They’ll need to use them to cross chasms, solve puzzle rooms and move through obstacles, and of course blast their way through monsters awoken by Set. The hands-on we played felt like an action movie, especially with a climactic scene where the four players were running across a crumbling bridge away from a giant alligator demon. The team from Crystal Dynamics, the game’s developer, said because it was an arcade, download-only title, they could play with a lot more cartoony, fantastic ideas and impose giant monsters on Lara and her friends. The characters collect treasures -- Egyptian rings and amulets -- to upgrade their skills, and each offers a stat boost that comes with a tradeoff. There are also new weapons to find throughout the game as well, much like the previous title. Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will be coming to next-gen consoles “very soon," though there is no specific price or release date. Another game starring Lara was also announced at E3: Rise of the Tomb Raider. But beyond a trailer shown during the Xbox Media Briefing on Monday, no other details have been announced for the game, a sequel to last year's franchise reboot. It is due out next year.
