At 18 feet, 3 inches long, officials may have captured the second largest python in Florida history.

The Burmese python, an invasive species in Florida, was captured by a permitted python researcher on July 9.

According to CBS Miami, the monster snake was captured along the Shark Valley tram road, a paved path for bicyclists and anyone taking a leisurely stroll.

The python, a female, was a mere four inches shorter than the largest in Florida history. US Geological Survey officials say that snakes of this size are able to eat animals like deer and alligators.

Officials told CBS Miami that the snake was humanely euthanized.
