It Took 85,000 Rubik's Cubes to Make This Mural

Solving one Rubik’s Cube is no easy task, but putting lots of them together to create a giant mural is even harder. Toronto-based Cube Works studio created a mosaic using 85,794 Rubik’s Cubes.

The "Largest Rubik’s Cube Mosaic Ever Created," which is 200 feet wide and 13 feet tall, has earned a Guinness World Record. From a distance it looks like a piece of art painted in a pointillist style.

The mural recreates the skyline of Macau in China. The studio worked with international teams to conceptualize, design and twist each of the Rubik’s Cubes into the monumental work. It was unveiled at the end of last year on the Macau waterfront, just outside Hong Kong.
