Since Last Chance Corral in Athens, Ohio opened its doors in 1986, thousands of foals and full-grown horses have been rescued.

Foals, especially during the foaling season of January to June, are the main focus of the rescue. Orphaned, unwanted, fragile foals require 24-hour care.

Last Chance Corral typically sees between 150 to 200 foals pass through their care and onto adoptive homes.

The foals often form bonds with each other for comfort from the stress of being separated from their mothers.

“We wanted to put our efforts into something that people don’t want to work with, which is newborns,” said founder, Victoria Goss. “We needed to at least give them a chance.”
