Lady Gaga may have shocked the world this year with her outlandish outfits and extravagant performances, but it comes as no shock that she tops Last.fm's charts as the most listened-to artist of 2009.

Her album, The Fame, was scrobbled for a combined total of more than 18 million plays. In fact, online listeners were so gaga over Gaga that plays exceeded second-place finisher, The Killers, by more than six million scrobbles.

Last.fm has been releasing their year-end data -- which was compiled by analyzing tracks played from full-length albums from October 2008 to November 2009 -- in spurts via their Best of 2009 site. You can view a number of interesting findings -- including hot new artists climbing the scrobbling chart -- and build your own "best of" charts at that destination.

Here's a look at Last.fm's online music winners for the year.
