Last.fm is on a mission to clean up the meta data on its site, such as making sure the correct spelling of artists, albums and tracks.

This was previously accomplished for artist names with a user-voting moderation system, but the updated system is far more automatic. It will work by utilizing its digital fingerprinting technology, which sends the fingerprint data to help out the moderation system. So with user participation on the site, there's a great amount of cross referencing that's made available to the system, helping it figure out what the correct spelling of artists, albums and tracks are, so that metadata on the site can be fixed.
