Last.fm’s first vice president of marketing post has gone to Orlena Yeung, reports Robert Andrews of paidContent. Yeung leaves a position of brand manager in Microsoft’s Xbox division for the spot at the CBS-owned company. Felix Miller, a co-founder of Last.fm, upon announcement of the transfer, called the newly instated VP a person with experience in “combining startup energy inside a major parent.” Translation: she was good at maintaining the cool factor of Xbox, if you will, while at the same time obliging connections with corporate suits at Microsoft.
Yes, CBS is very old, and Last.fm is quite young, and the management of the subsidiary, regardless of parentage, evidently wants to maintain that image. While Yeung’s job will of course be to “add value to the current community (of the service),” she will be working closely with both Miller and the crew at Last.fm as well as CBS Interactive - in particular, its executive vice president, Patrick Keane.
